Operation CIEDS 2025: quantum physics in the service of defence

The quantum plan announced on 10 June by the Minister for the Armed Forces aims to establish an ambitious and sovereign strategy to support the quantum revolution in the defence sector. This is why quantum technology will be a key theme of Operation CIEDS 2025. Professor Davide Boschetto and PhD candidate Amélie Kies, winner of the IP Paris 2025 final of the “My Thesis in 180 Seconds” competition, are conducting research in this field, with applications in both military and civilian domains. Both are also deeply involved in quantum physics education. Amélie Kies will also be speaking at a round table, organised as part of Operation CIEDS 2025, on 3 July.

A researcher at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris receives an ERC Advanced grant

Arnak Dalalyan is a professor at the ENSAE Paris, director of the Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST*) and Hi! PARIS Center - AI for Science, Business & Society research fellow. He has just received a grant from the European Research Council (ERC Advanced) worth €1.6 million to carry out the SAGMOS (Statistical Analysis of Generative Models: Sampling Guarantees and Robustness) project. This project focuses on the statistical analysis of current generative AI models, particularly the quantification of their accuracy. It will contribute to the theoretical understanding of automatic generation models, which could have numerous implications in terms of technological innovation.

Diagnosis using polarized light

Angelo Pierangelo, a professor and researcher at Ecole Polytechnique, conducts research on Mueller polarimetric imaging at the Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films (LPICM*). This optical imaging technique uses light polarization to explore biological tissues beyond their surface. Through this highly promising process and with the help of innovative technology developed with his team, the scientist aims to improve the diagnosis of various pathologies while promoting new strategies for treatment and patient care. His work has applications in the detection of precancerous lesions of the cervix and in monitoring the regular progress of pregnancy.

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the Institut Polytechnique de Paris hosted the interuniversity final of the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, bringing together six PhD candidates from IP Paris, Université Paris-Saclay, and Université PSL. At the end of the presentations, both the jury and the audience recognized Sooyong Chae and Ana-Maria Bratu for their outstanding ability to communicate and share their research with a non-specialist audience.

Located on both the Palaiseau, Marne-la-Vallée, and ENSTA Brest campuses, CIMO develops cutting-edge research and education in maritime science and engineering. Its goal: to help reduce the environmental footprint of maritime activities, support the energy transition, and enhance environmental monitoring of marine ecosystems.
