Researcher at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris awarded ERC Consolidator Grant

15 Dec. 2025
Jérémy Bleyer is a researcher at the Navier* laboratory at the École nationale des ponts et chaussées. He has just been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant to carry out his AUTOMATIX project, which aims to transform the way in which the behavior of materials in solid mechanics is modeled and simulated.
Researcher at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris awarded ERC Consolidator Grant

The goal of the AUTOMATIX project is to transform the way in which the behavior of materials in solid mechanics is modeled and simulated. The accurate representation of complex phenomena (deformations, damage, environmental or microstructural effects) remains a major challenge in many fields of application today. The project led by Jérémy Bleyer uses cutting-edge machine learning concepts to build behavior models directly and automatically from experimental data. The project integrates well-established physical and mathematical knowledge in mechanics into the very heart of the learning architecture. The result is more reliable models that are consistent with fundamental laws and require less data for training. The project has direct applications in the modeling of 3D-printed concrete structures at the Navier Laboratory of the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.

About the ERC

ERC Consolidator Grants are designed to support early-stage researchers (with between 7 and 12 years of experience after their PhD) and enable them to consolidate their research team and pursue their career.

The European Research Council (ERC), established by the European Union in 2007, is Europe's premier funding body for excellence in exploratory research. It funds creative researchers of any nationality and age to carry out projects across Europe. Four core grant programs are available: Starting Grants, Consolidator Grants, Advanced Grants, and Synergy Grants. An additional program dedicated to proof of concept helps recipients bridge the gap between their pioneering research and the early stages of commercialization.

The ERC is governed by an independent governing body, the Scientific Council. Since November 2021, Maria Leptin has been the President of the ERC. The ERC's overall budget for the period 2021-2027 is over €16 billion, as part of the Horizon Europe program, under the responsibility of the European Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva.

About Jérémy Bleyer

Jérémy Bleyer is a civil engineer, HDR researcher at the School's Navier Laboratory since 2017, and lecturer at École Polytechnique since 2020. His research focuses on theoretical and numerical mechanics of solids, in particular modeling structural failure (plasticity, damage). He is also heavily involved in the development of open source numerical tools. He received the Jean Mandel Prize in 2023.
