Description
The Sociology program delivers high-level training at the crossroads of sociology, demography, economics, and political science. It is tailored for students seeking expertise in cutting-edge statistical and computational approaches and their application to diverse policy and commercial contexts. Graduates gain a dual expertise in social theory and data analysis, preparing them for dynamic careers as data scientists, policy analysts, and researchers.
The curriculum begins with a first year dedicated to building a strong foundation in sociological reasoning, quantitative methods, and data analysis. In the second year, the Quantitative Sociology and Computational Social Science track allows specialization in two distinct majors.
The Computational Social Science (CSS) major, taught entirely in English, integrates advanced data science with deep social inquiry. Beyond technical proficiency, it trains students to handle complex data and explore large-scale societal questions through exposure to rigorous research design. This dual approach equips graduates with the transferable skills necessary for high-impact roles in the tech industry, consulting, and public administration.
The Quantitative Sociology and Demography (QSD) major, taught in English and French, is a research-oriented track that combines rigorous training in advanced quantitative and computational methods with solid exposure to contemporary theory and research design. Benefiting from a co-accreditation with Université Paris-Saclay, this major leverages a broad academic network to offer methodological diversity and thematic depth in areas such as social inequalities, population dynamics, and environmental challenges.
