On September 4, 2025, the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at deepening their cooperation in research and higher education.

The signing ceremony took place in Stockholm, in the presence of Mikael Lindström, Deputy President of KTH, and Thierry Coulhon, President of IP Paris, alongside institutional representatives, His Excellency Thierry Carlier, the French Ambassador to Sweden, and French and Swedish exchange students.

The MoU reaffirms an already strong partnership between the two institutions, covering major areas such as energy, (life science), defence, security, and artificial intelligence. For instance, IP Paris and KTH are jointly developing master’s programmes in energy, and their researchers have co-published a significant number of scientific articles in recent years. The new agreement is designed to give greater scope to these collaborations by strengthening the networking of research teams and fostering joint projects.

This dynamic takes place in a European context shaped by the renewal of the Strategic Partnership for Innovation between France and Sweden in 2024, which encourages new synergies between higher education and research institutions in both countries. Student mobility already illustrates this close cooperation: France is one of the most common destinations for outgoing KTH students, while many French students choose to pursue their studies or doctoral research in Stockholm.

This agreement positions KTH as a strategic partner for IP Paris and confirms the IP Paris’ ambition to build an international network of scientific and technological excellence.
