Global Politics and History in the 20th and 21st Centuries: A New Edition in 2027 for a Programme Bringing the Sciences Together
The programme aims to build stronger bridges between the fundamental sciences, the humanities and social sciences, and CIEDS. For the researchers contributing to the programme, it provides sufficient teaching time to introduce the foundations of their respective disciplines before exploring a specific issue through the lens of their research. Participants from a wide range of backgrounds also stand to benefit. Manuel Dorion-Soulié aims to equip them with the tools to approach the complexities of the world from fresh perspectives, deepen their understanding of international relations and develop a more informed view of the major issues shaping current affairs.
The programme will offer insights into the historical trajectories of the world's major powers, from the United States and China to Russia, as well as a number of key international relations issues, including the defence industry, the geopolitics of space and the international monetary system. Classes will take place over three Fridays, from 9 am to 5 pm on 8, 15 and 22 January 2027. Teaching will be delivered in French, while course materials will be provided in English.
Open to students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and staff from Institut Polytechnique de Paris and its member schools, as well as staff from the Ministry of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior, the programme will be held in the auditorium of the X-Novation Center at École Polytechnique in Palaiseau. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required by 18 December 2026 at the latest. Applicants should register by email, providing their first and last names, employer, job title and professional email address. Attendance for selected sessions only is possible, although full participation is recommended. Any partial attendance should be indicated at the time of registration.
