WHY ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM?

Asset n° 1

Pursue a PhD

Asset n°2

Gain experience with an internship at one of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris laboratories

Asset n°3

Acquire solid knowledge in the major fields of optics, light-matter interaction and the properties of matter

The Laser, Optics, Matter Master’s program aims to provide students with comprehensive training in optics, laser-material interaction and photonics. Focusing on concepts and fundamentals, the courses include laser and non-linear optics; fundamental physics of atoms, molecules, solids and plasmas; electromagnetism and nanophotonics; optoelectronics and optical communications; atomic optics, quantum optics and quantum information.

The Master’s program curriculum is supported by the laboratories at Institut Polytechnique de Paris dedicated to optics and photonics e.g. LOA, LOB, LULI, SAMOVAR and LTCI. The program comprises courses, lab work and an internship that can be completed at one of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris laboratories.

Objectives

This Master’s program enables student to:

  • Acquire solid knowledge in the major fields of optics, light-matter interaction and the properties of matter (atoms, molecules, solids and plasmas) with a focus on non-linear aspects of physics (lasers and non-linear electromagnetism) and the quantum properties of media interacting with light
  • Learn about fundamental theoretical and experimental aspects, as well as applications
  • Build a strong foundation to follow more specific elective courses (Jan-Feb) for a major in ultra-intense lasers and X-ray sources, nanophotonics and optoelectronics, atomic and molecular physics, quantum optics, biophysics or image sciences
  • Gain research experience through an internship

Students who graduate from this Master are equipped to:

  • Pursue a PhD (75% of students)
  • Build a career in Research and Development in industry e.g. laser development, optical instrument design, image processing, security, microelectronics, telecommunications, optical materials, large instruments or optoelectronic components and systems

Course details will be available when admission opens.
