WHY ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM?
Asset n° 1
Benefit from courses delivered by high-level scientists from Ile de France laboratories specializing in quantum devices
Asset n°2
Interact with prominent research teams, discover laboratories through guided tours and conduct experimental studies and a research project
Asset n°3
Open up an array of opportunities after graduation in both academia and industry
In the field of quantum devices and nanotechnologies, the boundaries between physics, chemistry, materials science, biology and molecular medicine blur. Fundamental and applied research in each discipline enriches the others: theoretical advances are accompanied by progress in material science (synthesizing new materials and controlling elaboration) and by developing new experimental techniques e.g. near field microscopy and electron microscopy techniques.
These advances have had important consequences in fundamental physics. Today, we are able to observe and manipulate single atoms and conceive quantum devices: semiconductor sources and detectors, molecular transistors, superconducting circuits for quantum information, hard disks based on giant magnetoresistance and DNA chips.
The Quantum Devices Master’s program introduces students to this rich field and equips them to make their own contributions in academic or industrial research.
Objectives
This Master’s program enables students to:
- Acquire a high level of theoretical and experimental knowledge in different kinds of quantum phenomena with an emphasis on quantum devices and nanotechnologies
- Receive state-of-the-art training in nanofabrication and nanocharacterizing including access to cleanroom facilities and a dedicated nanoscience teaching platform
On graduating, students will be equipped for an academic career in universities or major research organisations (CNRS, CEA, IN2P3), or to carry out applied research in an industrial environment.

Admission requirements
Academic prerequisites
- Completion of the first year of a Master with highest honors at Institut Polytechnique de Paris or equivalent in France or abroad
- Applicants must present a personal project coherent with the philosophy of the Physics by Research Master - applicants are advised to contact faculty members in their field of study well ahead of the application deadline with a statement on their scientific interests to coordinate their proposed study program
- Due to the highly selective nature of the program, applicants are strongly encouraged to also apply to one of the topical Master tracks at Institut Polytechnique de Paris
Language prerequisites
- English
- Working knowledge of French will enhance the range of options available
How to apply
Applications can be submitted exclusively online. You will need to provide the following documents:
- Transcript
