WHY ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM?

Asset n° 1

The “Chemistry and Interfaces” Master’s program is a high-level scientific and academic program offered by the Institute Polytechnique de Paris (IPP) and the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS-Université Paris Saclay). It is devoted to the chemistry of molecules and materials and its applications in the fields of biology and material sciences.

Asset n°2

The program delivers state-of-the-art knowledge in academic sciences and brings students closer to applications in industry. Expert academics teach the courses through formal lecturing and student-led coursework. Students will have access to top-level infrastructure when working on real research projects as part of established research groups.

Asset n°3

The Master’s program allows engineers and scientists from various backgrounds (chemistry, chemical and bio-engineering, materials or physics) to build on their experience and expertise. It provides a strong base in engineering and sciences that can be transferred to the next stage of their career in academia or industry.

Overview

The programme is divided into two majors and students must choose one of them:

Major 1: Molecular Chemistry and Interfaces: The courses focus on organometallic chemistry and catalysis, supramolecular chemistry, chemobiology, and chemistry for optoelectronics. Delivered in English, the program also includes a literature and total synthesis project, as well as a 6-month research project.

The “Molecular Chemistry and Interface” Master program aims to:

  • Provide high-level learning in chemistry to train tomorrow’s experts;
  • Enable students to build complex molecules, understand and propose reaction mechanisms;
  • Provide a program at the interface of biology, materials sciences, optoelectronics to imagine new applications and collaborations;
  • Provide students with in-depth understanding using molecular modelling.

Major 2: Material Chemistry and Interfaces: The Materials Chemistry and Interfaces Master’s program aims to provide a fundamental understanding of all aspects relating to the development and engineering of materials. Students will enhance their ability to research, design, assess, implement and review solutions to the challenges facing our society across a wide range of materials. The main applications relate to energy, transport, electronics, medicine, nanotechnologies and health.

This “Materials Chemistry and Interfaces” Master program aims to:

  • Provide a strong interdisciplinary background in materials science and, in particular, materials science engineering: functional physical/chemical properties, materials synthesis, nanostructuring and shaping, characterization of structural/microstructural/chemical/physical properties, applications, surface states and engineering;
  • Gain experience through practical sessions based on a project and/or learning-by-doing approach - this includes practical training in laboratories • Complete an internship at one of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris laboratories or with an industrial partner.

Career Prospects

  • Chemistry engineer in academic or industrial research laboratory
  • PhD student in basic or applied research
  • etc.
