WHY ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM?

Asset n° 1

Training that fulfils high industrial demand.

Asset n°2

An inter-institutional teaching team comprising several internationally recognised experts.

Asset n°3

Teaching that integrates theory and practice.

Although primarily focused on geotechnics, the master in MSROE aims to embody a true intersection between mechanical engineering and civil engineering, especially through its emphasis on modelling the behaviour of materials, structures, and their environment. This intersection is notably evidenced by the uniqueness of the calculation codes.

It builds on a common core first year in civil engineering and construction, which provides the necessary foundations before specialization in the second year in Soil and Rock Mechanics and Geo-environmental Engineering.

The craft of the builder is increasingly engaging with highly stimulating fields, especially as the availability of "easy" sites diminishes, alongside the demands of urban development, and more broadly, the management of the entire territory, international competition, and society's environmental expectations.

Objectives

The MSROE Master's programme also trains high-achieving geotechnical modelers by concentrating on sectors of significant current and future industrial demand, such as urban planning and development in challenging settings, geotechnics related to pollution, waste, and major hazards, and, more broadly, environmental protection.

These fields of application, characterised by their demanding context, require the development of research themes such as:

  • Considering substantial heterogeneities, risks, and the regionalisation of errors and uncertainties.
  • The real-world performance of materials under complex loading;
  • Interactions and couplings (solids, liquids, gases);
  • Validation of codes and procedures, parameter re-identification, and inverse problems.

This speciality allows for immediate entry into the workforce as well as opportunities for doctoral studies. It opens the door to:

  • Research careers within major research organisations, research centres, and university laboratories.
  • Research and development careers within companies, along with careers in engineering and consulting.

The technological areas of particular interest are:

  • Civil engineering construction and works;
  • Water and environmental sectors;
  • Waste treatment;
  • Natural hazards;
  • Engineering and technical consultancy.
