CIEDS & Pascal Broquard: A Shared Perspective on Innovation within Special Forces
Pascal Broquard spent 30 years of his life serving in the Special Forces. Engaged in all theaters of operations, he is one of the most decorated non-commissioned officers in the French army. Author of the book "From Special Forces to Business," he now shares his experience and skills with academic communities as a lecturer and instructor, as well as with businesses through his firm TOP Emotional Intelligence Consulting.
Pascal Broquard kindly agreed to answer questions from François Plais, Director of Operations at CIEDS.
In this interview, Pascal Broquard explains that the human factor, often neglected in the past, is actually the source of innovations driven by Special Forces operators. Their exposure to danger during complex operations creates an urgent need to innovate to reduce risks.
When technologies are adapted to the needs in protection, vision, and transmission, the operator accepts the risk. However, technologies evolve very rapidly; therefore, the Special Forces are constantly on the lookout for the best tools for immediate implementation, adapted to the use case, and to enhance the security of their upcoming missions.
Preparation is increasingly becoming an essential part of a mission's success. Indeed, with the return of high-intensity warfare, engagements are evolving from asymmetric conflict situations to scenarios where the adversary has comparable technological capabilities.
