WHY ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM?

Asset n°1

Advance your expertise in statistical and computational methods and their application to solve social problems.

Asset n°2

Gain an interdisciplinary exposure to theories and empirical findings in key substantive areas of academic research in the social sciences, with connections to non-academic applications.

Asset n°3

Design, execute, and manage a hands-on, end-to-end research project under the close guidance of leading researchers and mentors.

The Quantitative Sociology and Computational Social Science Master 2 track is aimed at students with solid prior background in quantitative methods and social science research who seek advanced training in cutting-edge statistical and computational methods and their application in social science research and diverse policy and commercial settings.

Graduates leave with dual expertise in social theory and data analysis—skills highly sought after in business, government, and academia. Career paths include data scientist, marketing analyst, user experience researcher, policy analyst, consultant, and sales researcher. Students are also well prepared to pursue a PhD.

The program fosters interdisciplinary thinking, combining sociology, political science, economics, and management science with advanced methods from mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

Students in the QSCSS M2 track specialize in one of two majors:

  • Computational Social Science (CSS):

The CSS M2 Major, taught entirely in English, offers students advanced courses in statistical and computational methods with a strong emphasis on hands-on research and transferable computational skills for both academic and non-academic careers.

Students learn how to handle complex data and explore big questions about society. They learn about social research, are exposed to the major theories of human behavior and their application to real-world social issues such as education, demography, politics, income, urban development, mobility, inequality, or cultural trends.

The program fosters interdisciplinary thinking and hones the dual skills of solid knowledge in social theory and in data analysis. Graduates can immediately work in a variety of roles, including data scientist, marketing analyst, sales researcher, user experience researcher, and policy analyst. Students are also well prepared to enter PhD programs.

  • Quantitative Sociology and Demography (QSD)

The QSD M2 Major is a research-oriented program geared towards students who seek a solid exposure to contemporary theory, research design and empirical findings in international quantitative sociology and demography.

The program offers students advanced courses in quantitative and computational methods and thematic courses in areas such as population, inequalities, culture, cities and neighbourhoods, environment, and health. Students conduct original research in the context of a master’s dissertation or a long internship at a research-oriented institution.

Graduates combine strong analytical skills with deep social science knowledge—an in-demand profile for roles like data scientist, marketing analyst, policy analyst, and more. The program also provides excellent preparation for a PhD with a high placement rate in PhD programs in France and Europe.

Objectives

  • Advance your expertise in quantitative methods and apply them to develop social science theories and empirical studies.
  • Prepare for diverse and growing career paths for future academic and practical research that require data-driven yet socially meaningful insights.
