The ASC Chair : Research and Training for Complex Systems in Defense
A Chair Dedicated to Complex Systems
The ASC Chair is led by IP Paris, in collaboration with several of its schools : l’École polytechnique, l’ENSTA, Télécom Paris and Télécom SudParis. It is supported by four major industrial partners - Dassault Aviation, Dassault Systèmes, KNDS et Naval Group-as well as the Defense Innovation Agency (AID), which pool their expertise and resources to advance applied research and engineering practices.
Dedicated to the design and mastery of complex systems, particularly in the defense sector, the ASC Chair brings together academic, industrial, and institutional partners around strategic scientific and technological challenges. These include AI in defense systems, drone and robot swarms, MBSE modeling and simulation of systems of systems, and formal verification and validation of cyber-physical systems.
At the Crossroads of Worlds and Disciplines
The ASC Chair aims to :
- Develop new methods and approaches to better understand, design, and manage technical systems of increasing complexity ;
- Train engineers and researchers capable of operating at the interface of various disciplines (engineering, data science, project management, etc.) ;
- Provide a framework for exchange and collaboration between academic research and industrial needs, serving education, research, and innovation.
The work of the ASC Chair falls within the scope of applied research, addressing concrete challenges faced by industry. It focuses on systems engineering, modeling, simulation, and the architecture of complex systems.
In parallel, the ASC Chair offers an educational program for students, providing unique expertise in complex systems and a deeper understanding of the challenges involved in their design and lifecycle management.
A Collective and Open Dynamic
Beyond its scientific and educational activities, the ASC Chair regularly organizes public and private events and seminars to disseminate knowledge and foster dialogue between researchers and industrial/defense partners.
In 2025, it launched the ASC Challenge, a collaborative project involving students from IP Paris schools and representatives of partner organizations to tackle real-world issues. This initiative reflects the Chair’s commitment to promoting a collective and open approach to research and innovation.
By serving as a privileged hub for collaboration between academic and industrial actors, the ASC Chair fully contributes to IP Paris’s mission : to train top talent and develop cutting-edge knowledge in service of major scientific, technological, and societal challenges.
