Seven projects from Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) are among the 2026 awardees of the French State Innovation Competitions (Concours d’innovation de l’État), covering a wide range of fields including space technologies, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, medical technologies, industrial optimization and ocean observation.

On October 10th, the Fête de la science is coming to Institut Polytechnique de Paris. École nationale des ponts et chaussées (Champs-sur-Marne) and École polytechnique (Palaiseau) invite curious minds of all ages to interactive workshops exploring this year's 2026 theme — Saveurs savantes ("Scientific Flavors") — as well as science in a broader sense.

Starting October 1, 2026, Vincent Jolys will join Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) as Director General of Services. With more than fifteen years of senior leadership experience in higher education, he joins the Institute at a pivotal moment as it prepares its 2027–2031 Strategic Objectives and Performance Agreement and transitions beyond its experimental institutional status.

Hosted at ENSTA, CIEDS 2026 Operation brought together nearly 400 participants from a wide range of backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to discover IP Paris and its ecosystem’s commitment to defence and security innovation. The fourth edition of CIEDS Operation provided a wealth of opportunities for discussion and exchange, with a programme aligned with the priorities of the French Ministry for the Armed Forces and Veterans.

The expert committee of the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (Hcéres) has issued a unanimously favorable opinion on Institut Polytechnique de Paris exiting its experimental status and transforming into a "grand établissement" (public institution of higher education and research). This marks major recognition of the progress made by IP Paris and its six member Schools since 2019.

Cambyse Rouzé, an Inria researcher at Télécom Paris and a member of the Information Processing and Communication Laboratory (LTCI), Marc-Olivier Renou, Junior Professor Chair holder at Inria Saclay, affiliated with the Centre for Theoretical Physics (CPHT) at École polytechnique, and Vicky Kalogeiton, professor at École Polytechnique and member of the École Polytechnique Computer Science Laboratory (LIX ***), have all three received an ERC Starting Grant for their respective projects, Q-GIBBS, QINF and FLASH.

As of September 1, 2026, Bruno Bellier takes over as Director General of École Polytechnique, one of the six schools of Institut Polytechnique de Paris. He will also serve as interim President of the School until the publication of its new organizational decree. As General Engineer of Armament (Ingénieur général de l’armement) and a graduate of École Polytechnique, he also joins IP Paris governance at a key moment in its development and transformation.

With strong support from the Defence Innovation Agency, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Defence and Security Studies (CIEDS) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Seas and Ocean (CIMO) are launching their new calls for proposals. The aim is to fund ambitious defence and security-oriented projects within the laboratories of Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris), with the possibility of working in collaboration with academic or industrial partners. Selected projects will commence in October 2027.

Last month, the French Tech Mission unveiled the seventh edition of the French Tech Next40/120, the flagship programme supporting France's fastest-growing technology companies. This year, 34 companies connected to Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) are among the 120 selected scale-ups. Founded, co-founded or led by alumni of the Institute's member schools, or supported by its incubators, they account for more than one quarter of the French Tech 120 (FT120) cohort. Of these, 17 have been selected for the Next40, representing more than one third of the companies in this category and highlighting the ability of the IP Paris ecosystem to nurture technology leaders with global ambitions.

The event is organized in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Defense and Security Center (CIEDS), supported by the French Ministry of Defense, the Defense Innovation Agency, as well as the IHEDN Cybersecurity and Digital Sovereignty Chair, affiliated with the High National Defense Studies Institute (IHEDN) through its Endowment Fund.
