Asset n°3

Benefit from advanced courses delivered by experts, in close partnership with the Institut Polytechnique de Paris’s laboratories

The International Centre for Fundamental Physics Master’s program offers students a wide range of advanced courses to complete their studies in fundamental physics. This Year 2 Master’s program allows students to customize their curriculum through the wide choice of courses: theoretical physics, quantum physics, condensed matter physics, macroscopic physics and complexity, as well as many optional courses. This program prepares students for a PhD in fundamental physics, as well as applied research. Students will benefit from the facilities and excellence of the Laboratories of Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

Objectives

The International Centre for Fundamental Physics Master’s program enables students to:

  • Benefit from comprehensive, diversified training in theoretical and experimental fundamental physics
  • Acquire knowledge in various fields including high-energy physics, statistical physics, quantum optics, solid-state physics, soft-matter physics, physical mechanics and biophysics
  • Prepare for a PhD in fundamental physics based on a generalist approach

On graduation, students will be equipped to:

  • Pursue a PhD
  • Occupy a position at a university or major research organization (CNRS, CEA, IN2P3) at the end of a PhD
  • Embark on a career in applied research in industry at the end of a PhD

Courses organization

Students are expected to complete an internship relevant to their course of study (18 ECTS) from April to June, in France or abroad.

Admission requirements

Academic prerequisites

  • Completion of the first year of a Master with highest honors at Institut Polytechnique de Paris or equivalent in France or abroad
  • Applicants must present a personal project coherent with the philosophy of the Physics by Research Master - applicants are advised to contact faculty members in their field of study well ahead of the application deadline with a statement on their scientific interests to coordinate their proposed study program
  • Due to the highly selective nature of the program, applicants are strongly encouraged to also apply to one of the topical Master tracks at Institut Polytechnique de Paris
