Strategic Partnership with Inria

Inria (national research institute in digital sciences and technologies) and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) have signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a strengthened partnership in 2021, embodied by the "Inria Center at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris".
Strategic Partnership with Inria

The collaboration between the two organizations, based on their common goals, will be built around several pillars: research and education, transfer and innovation, and support for research and innovation. In order to meet major scientific and technological challenges, Inria's presence will be intensified in the existing and planned IP Paris interdisciplinary centers on AI, defense and security, health sciences, and quantum technologies. In addition, the collaboration between the two partners will promote research at risk, enable the deployment of an active policy of attracting the best scientific talent, and instruct the creation of a building dedicated to research in mathematics. This collaboration will also support the creation and accompaniment of start-up projects by developing synergies between the Inria Startup Studio and the Drahi-X Novation Center at the Ecole Polytechnique, and will enable the development of new agreements with strategic industrial partners. Finally, they will strengthen collaboration between their research support services in order to better support researchers and their initiatives.

The priority axes of the partnership

The collaboration of the two organizations aims at strengthening the scientific ambition and attractiveness of research and education in the field of digital technology, through several priority axes:

  • Co-building interdisciplinary centers
  • To carry out joint recruitments
  • Encouraging scientific risk-taking
  • Encouraging the involvement of researchers in training
  • Creating an Inria-IP Paris math building
  • Create joint teams with industrialists
  • Create start-up projects
  • Strengthen the synergy of our support policies
  • Modernize working methods and practices

The Institute's ambition is to accelerate the construction of scientific, technological and industrial leadership in and through digital technology in France, within a European dynamic. In this respect, Inria is a tool for the nation's sovereignty and strategic digital autonomy. This ambition is based on the coherence and synergies between its national policy and its territorial policy, by fully committing Inria, through its research centers, to the development of world-class research universities, at the heart of entrepreneurial and industrial ecosystems energized by digital technology, with a requirement for scientific, economic and societal impact. In line with the evolution of our site policy, as part of our Contract of Objectives and Performance for 2019-2023, this is the meaning of the strengthened partnership between the Inria Saclay - Île-de-France research center and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

Bruno Sportisse, Director General of Inria

The Inria Center of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris

This collaboration is embodied by the creation of the "Inria Center of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris". The creation of the center will be the catalyst for major collaborative projects on future research topics. In this context, the creation of joint project teams will be added to the joint teams already shared with the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

This partnership with Inria embodies our shared ambition to strengthen our technological and digital leadership in France and Europe. By combining the expertise and excellence in computer science and mathematics shared by IP Paris and Inria, we can jointly develop disruptive research to meet the greatest challenges, increase the economic impact of innovation and considerably strengthen our international appeal. The co-development of our interdisciplinary centers, such as Hi! PARIS, dedicated to artificial intelligence and data science, will enable us to combine research and teaching at the highest level to cover a wide range of deep tech fields, from machine learning to the societal, economic and ethical issues emerging with the growth of data
