In the Grand Hall and Bibliothèque of École Polytechnique, you will discover beautiful works of art on the theme of "Lumière" (light). The trophies will then be taken to the Pantheon to be presented to the winners of the short story competition on October 20.

Two classes from the glass section of the Le Corbusier high school participated in the creation of the trophies: the CAP (Certificat d'Aptitude Professionnelle) Vitrail and the BMA (Brevet des Métiers d'Art) glass decorator classes.

They started by drawing to undertake the project, arranging lines and curves on paper to obtain proposals for trophies with various designs.

The graphic and colored research gave them the opportunity to show their sensitivity and artistic character through glass. The light is already magnified thanks to the raw material of the trophies: GLASS. Its diversity of aspects, colors, reliefs, naturally introduces the link with sculpture.

Light conveys the idea of transmission. The designers/light sculptors of the Glass section of the Lycée des métiers d'art Le Corbusier, will offer the trophies to the winners of the competition at the Pantheon on October 20, 2022, as a symbolic passage between young glassworkers and committed engineers ready to invest fully in the world and to share their knowledge.

On this occasion, Daniel ROUAN, astrophysicist at the Paris Observatory and member of the Academy of Sciences, will give an inaugural lecture at the Pantheon on the theme of the year. His speech will be published in the collection of winning short stories.

The 700 or so short stories submitted this year show how this competition is a lively and magnificent opportunity to bring science and literature together, to open up a real dialogue between literary writing and scientific themes, through interaction between secondary and higher education: these are all issues that are at the heart of the missions and actions of the International Center for French Language and Culture at Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
