PhD Track

The IP Paris Design Master proposes a PhD track allowing the student to build a research project in themes related to the design of digital innovation, in the broad sense: interaction design, user-centered design, data visualization, service design, etc.

Supervised by renowned researchers, in a multidisciplinary research environment, within a pioneering ecosystem in the fields of innovation, and in relation to an industrial network constituted by the most successful companies in their fields, the student will have the opportunity to build a research problem on contemporary design issues and to integrate a design-based approach at the heart of collective research in different fields of technological innovation.

Program Structure

The PhD track is open to students of various profiles (design, computer sciences, social sciences and humanities) with an excellent academic level. The teaching programme is based on Master 1 « Representations, Gestures and Tools » and Master 2 « Design Research » co-organized with ENS Paris-Saclay and ENSCI. Depending on the student’s profile and the field of research envisaged, the programme will be modulated with courses from Télécom Paris or other components of IP Paris: leveling in design, computer science, humanities and social sciences, etc. An important place will be given to an immersion in a laboratory, in M1 and M2, (between 150 and 300h per year) for the construction of a research project that could lead to the pursuit of a PhD in Design, Humanities or Computer science, at the end of the 120 credits leading to the Master’s degree in Design.

The student will be supervised by a researcher from the SES department of Télécom Paris and potentially co-supervised by a researcher from another IP Paris laboratory or a partner company (Renault, Air Liquide, EDF, etc.)
