Everywhere in the world, quantum technologies are now reaching maturity, heralding groundbreaking transformations in the way we compute, communicate, encrypt, and simulate. That prospect comes with extraordinary challenges, and overcoming them will require passionate scientists with an in-depth knowledge of quantum theory. Now is a unique time to be part of that quantum revolution as it unfolds.

The QMI M2 (Master's second year) program will equip you with everything you need to work on the theoretical, mathematical, and computer science-related aspects of the quantum revolution. Our 14 courses, unique in diversity and depth, tackle every aspect of this rapidly evolving field, from quantum cryptography to error correction codes, and bring you all the way to the state of the art.

The program will also put you in contact with the major industrial players in quantum technologies, in the highly dynamic Saclay environment and beyond. At the end of the year, you will be able to work in the quantum industry as well as in academia.

Objectives

This M2 program allows students to:

  • Follow a comprehensive training, that gets them up to speed in the various aspects of quantum technologies
  • Master cutting-edge mathematical tools for the study and use of quantum information
  • Get in contact with academic and industrial quantum labs
  • Prepare to work as a researcher in academia or in the industry 

Quantum technologies are currently a highly dynamic field, with many career opportunities in the industry as well as in fundamental research. The Saclay plateau and the Paris region are a world-class hotspot for quantum research, with several important startups and corporate labs (Quandela, Pasqal, Alice&Bob, IBM, ...). In France and abroad, these industrial players are in considerable need for trained experts in quantum theory.

With a QMI degree, you will be able to pursue with a PhD in fundamental research, to do a PhD with an industrial partner (thèse Cifre), or to directly pursue in the industry.

 

Overview

The QMI M2 offers 14 courses covering all of the theoretical aspects of quantum computing and quantum technologies, a unique curriculum in terms of breadth.

The curriculum is split into two periods. The first period (P1) runs from October to December, and the second (P2) from January to March. One (noted P1.5) is on a shifted schedule and run from December to February. The program also includes crash courses in Quantum Information in September (for students with no quantum background), and a research internship from April to August.

Validation: In order to obtain their degree, students must validate 30 ECTS in courses, and the internship's 30 ECTS. This means they must validate at least 12 courses in the curriculum.

Academic prerequisites

Completion of the first year of a Master (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field, in France or abroad.

Language prerequisites

  • English (B2 level)

  • a motivation letter;
  • your transcripts from previous years (at least L3/M1);
  • if available, a scientific report you recently wrote (for instance following a Bachelor thesis, a research internship, etc.)
